Arson Arrest Press Release:
On Saturday, September 30, 2023, Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 3000 block of Balfour Road in reference to a Domestic Call. Upon arrival, Deputies smelled something that had appeared to be burning. Deputies spoke with the victim. The victim stated that the suspect was trying to gain entry inside of the residence. The victim called 911 to have law enforcement offices to respond to the location. When the suspect wasn’t allowed
into the residence, the victim smelled something burning on the outside of the residence. The victim observed his home on fire and was able to put the fire out with minor damage.
The Fire Marshall’s Office and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were notified and responded to the scene of the incident. The victim was able to confirm the identity of the suspect. Detectives met with a Mr. Nakeem Winston. Mr. Winston waived his rights and spoke with Detectives.
Mr. Winston was transported to the Hoke County Detention Center. Mr. Winston was charged with Simple Assault, Second Degree Trespassing, and Felony First Degree Arson. Mr. Winston was given a $50,000.00 Secured Bond.
